If you’re looking for something a little more budget-friendly, there are tons of local guesthouses within walking distance of the beach which won’t set you back an arm and a leg. The amazing Intercontinental Resort is less than a 10 minute walk away (it’s also located right across the street from BluPort shopping center, which is super handy when it comes to grocery shopping and entertainment - they have an awesome cinema!).Īnd sure - it may be a fancy place, but they’re well used to kitesurfers. Surrounded by hundreds of kilometers of coral reef, and inland, covered in winding rivers and… You’ll find it in the desolate islands, the hidden waterfalls, and the mysterious mountain temples. You’ll find it in the butter flat lagoons, strong wind, and barreling surf. Extreme nomads with a burn for outdoor adventure have long known Sri Lanka’s real charm isn’t something you’ll find in the city. The lagoon offers lots of space, as there are very few swimmers or boats. The lagoon floor has an even depth making it perfect to learn in and improve skills. Hua Thanon (south of popular Lamei beach) is nested in a huge lagoon and thus is the perfect location for kitesurfing for riders of all levels. Beginner kitesurfers enjoy hip-deep water in the huge lagoons, advanced kitesurfers blast along the flat-water or play with the reef-wave at high tide. The North-East Monsoon delivers steady winds to the eastern part and between November and February you find top conditions for all kitesurfer levels here. Koh Samui offers world class kite-spot for all levels. Spot for kite surfing is Lamai Beach and North of Nathon on the West coast. There are numerousīeaches suited for kite surfing depending on the season, wind direction and tide. Water temperatures: Range from 26-28 Celsius throughout the year. Board shorts and a rashie is all that's required. No nasty marineĪnimals to watch out for here. Inside the reef the water is warm andįlat, waves are building outside the reef as the wind strength increases.
